A Note on Our Palm Oil — and Why Sourcing It Well Matters
Palm oil gets a bad rap in natural skincare circles, and often for good reason — large-scale production has driven deforestation across parts of Southeast Asia. So why does it show up in our soap bars at all?
Where Ours Comes From
Our palm oil is sourced from Colombia, the only country to pledge zero deforestation in palm oil production. Its proximity to Aruba also keeps our shipping footprint low compared to oils sourced from further across the globe — a shorter trip means fewer emissions getting it to our workshop.
Why We Still Use It
Combined with organic sunflower seed oil and organic coconut oil, saponified palm oil gives our Honey Soap, Aloe Soap, Aloe Turmeric Soap, and Ocean Soap their texture and lather without relying on synthetic detergents. The alternative — cutting palm oil entirely — often means importing other oils from even further away, or turning to less sustainable substitutes.
Small Batches, Full Transparency
Because we make everything in small batches ourselves, we can be specific about exactly where each ingredient comes from rather than pointing to a generic supply chain. If you have questions about any ingredient in a specific product, reach out — we're happy to talk through it.
